Red Bull Fragments 2016
End of January, the Bulgarian mountain resort “Borovets” will host the second edition of Red Bull Fragments – a freestyle snowboard competition that is all about jibbing with friends and having fun while trying to be as creative as possible hitting the unique setup. What makes the course different from most rail competitions is that it consist of multiple sections with some 5 to 8 features each, allowing riders to get very creative and versatile. Each section consists of typically urban features and represent fragments of the city streets, which is where the name of the event is coming from. Riders like Wojtek ‘Gniazdo’ Pawlusiak evaluated last year’s setup as “Sick!” This time the guys who stand behind the course creation have prepared a setup which will by far exceed everyone’s expectations. This year’s edition will be lasting two-days from Sa. 30.01. to Su. 31.01. The first day will be a training session for the invited international athletes and the local jibbers, ending with a qualification round to determine the 30 local riders who will get through to the main event on the next day. On Sunday, qualified shredders from Bulgaria and invitees from all across Europe will be competing in an open jam session for a prize fund of more than 4000 Euro in cash and gear plus the chance to win a money-can’t-buy experience.
Marco Grilc and Iztok Sumatic, who were judging the first edition and need no further introduction, will again occupy the jury stand. This time, the third chair will be reserved for Kareem El Rafie, who most would associate with the Frontline Rail Jam.
Last year, Marco Grilc, who has been following the development of the scene in the Balkan country, was so stoked by the skills of the 14-year-old Bulgarian shredder Borislav Stoyanov, that he invited him to Absolute Park in Austria to join the shootings of the season’s last Grilosode. Time will show if Grilo has prepared more surprises for the riders at this year’s Red Bull Fragments.
Red Bull Fragments is a happening created from riders for riders, which aims to challenge skills and creativity, inspire young shredders and let people enjoy!
